Job Description: Kaplan University is looking for a Specialist to work in our newly established Science Center. This position is a virtual/remote opportunity.

The Science Center (SC) Specialist is responsible for managing all aspects of the Science Center’s operations to include coordinating tutors and their projects, providing hiring recommendations to the Science Department Chair, as well as oversight and training of part-time tutors. The Specialist will also manage the synchronous and asynchronous components of the center. Since the center is new, the SC Specialist will–in coordination with the Science Department Chair–establish the vision and resource types required in the center, and will oversee development of the center. The SC Specialist will provide 10 hours of tutoring services per week in addition to the other duties listed above.

Primary Responsibilities:
–Coordinate development, maintainence, and expansion of the Science Center’s synchronous and asynchronous resources in conjunction with the Science Department Chair.
–Provide 10 hours of tutoring service per week.
–Provide ongoing training and support to faculty cross-institutionally in support of science.
–Develop, schedule, and retain science tutors to ensure Kaplan University students receive outstanding tutoring support.
–Coordinate the synchronous and asynchronous components of the center.
–Maintain the SC SharePoint site as a community building and sharing site for tutors.
–Generate creative and innovative project ideas which support better science education across Kaplan University.

–Provide Science Department Chair and academic leadership with weekly SC usage reports.
–Work on special projects creating weekly reports and suggesting policy and process improvements.

Requirements:
–Master’s Degree (M.A./M.S.) in Science or related field with 18 graduate credit hours and 1-3 years of related experience.
–Tutoring experience is strongly preferred and science education.
–Strong knowledge of all Office suite programs (Excel, PPT, Word, etc) and Kaplan University platform (KU Campus and KU Courses). An interest in and high degree of comfort with current web technology trends. Candidates with more advanced knowledge in areas like Flash, podcasting, HTML, etc. are preferred.
–The ability to market the Science Center to a variety of audiences with clarity and excitement Strong communicative, organizational, and time management skills Active involvement in science scholarship to include presenting and publishing.
–The ability to succeed in a fast-paced environment with aggressive goals and a commitment to quality.
Demonstrated ability to work well cross-functionally and to get things done interdepartmentally in an effective, time-efficient manner.
