The Community Services Department provides planning for the development and improvement of community service facilities. The Department also coordinates a variety of leisure and human services for Pleasanton residents. These services include sports and recreational activities for youth and adults, classes, cultural arts, special programs for children, senior citizens, and the disabled.

The Division: Civic Arts Presents is a program under the Civic Arts Division of the Community Services Department. The Civic Arts Division includes management of the Amador Theater and Firehouse Theater; arts and enrichment classes; environmental education; oversight of the public art collection and literary, visual and performing arts.

The Position:
The Civic Arts Presents program seeks a part-time Recreation Leader to work as a Marketing Assistant, with a supporting role in box office and front-of-house operations for the Firehouse Arts Center and Amador Theater.

The Position: Under direction from the Sr. Recreation Program Specialist, the Recreation Leader serves as community marketing assistant, while supporting theater ticketing services and “front-of-house” operations. Responsibilities include creating and managing a database of community businesses and organizations supporting the Firehouse Arts Center and Amador Theater; periodic box office sales and house management duties at the Firehouse Arts Center and the Amador Theater.

During the performance season, normally September through July, this position may be required to work evenings and weekends, as this are when most performances occur.

This is a part-time, temporary position, and cannot work more than 1,000 hours per fiscal year. It does not offer benefits, but does contribute to Social Security and Medicare. CPR and First Aid training and certification are required. Training can be made available as needed.

Typical Duties:
•Assisting with the development and implementation of Community Marketing Plan and sponsorship program.
•Updating Online Box Office Software (Seat Advisor).
•Becoming familiar with Box Office sales processes and procedures.
•Coordinating all group sales, discount and membership programs.
•Becoming familiar with House Management and Volunteer Coordination policies.
•Becoming familiar with the season’s performances, and answering questions about other performances in the local area.
•Assisting with other marketing and promotional tools as assigned.

The Ideal Candidate:

The ideal candidate will:
•Possess excellent customer service skills, excellent oral and written communication skills, and a professional appearance and demeanor.
•Possess strong organizational skills.
•Be proficient in Microsoft Word, Outlook, Excel and PowerPoint.
•Have experience with online based software programs.
•Have a creative mind for marketing.
•Be able to assist the public and City employees with tact and courtesy; establish and maintain effective working relationships with volunteer ushers and Theater staff.
•Awareness of local performances and community events is a plus.

The Selection Process:

A reference check will be conducted prior to making an offer. The selected applicant will be required to undergo and successfully pass a fingerprint check by the City prior to starting employment.
